New Equipment And Procedures

Carl Zeiss Opmi Lumera

With the acquisition of the OPMI LUMERA from Carl Zeiss, its Stereo Axial Illumination gives a unique element recognition, high contrast brilliance and stability of the red reflex, enabling the Eye Specialist to see an accurate details of the patient's eye.

The future of the red reflex is here, creating a new level of confidence in the field of cataract and vitreous surgery.

This conscious choice to invest in technology is a reaffirmation of UST Hospital's commitment to provide the best quality healthcare possible and to continually foster the development of medical expertise.

Breast Cancer

A simple breast check-up can be a pain; treatment, an ordeal.

Conventional hospital check-ups require the patient to bounce around from specialist, to test, to another specialist, and yet another test, all in different parts of the hospital. This takes an awful lot of time, energy - and patience.

The UST Hospital shortens this process with its new Breast Care Center at the Benavides Cancer Institute. It provides multi-disciplinary care for breast diseases, diagnosis and treatment - practically everything in one area.

From mammography to advanced ultrasound detection and biopsies, to the latest treatment modalities, the UST Hospital's Breast Care Center is organized to deliver the highest possible standard of care.

Siemens Somatom Sensation
64-Slice CT Scan

Our new 64-Slice CT Scan delivers ultra-fast, precise, and much clearer images using a minimally invasive procedure for efficient diagnosis. This state-of-the-art imaging machine provides 64 credit card-thin images totaling 40 millimeters of anatomical coverage to clearly visualize internal structures within the human body.

With the minimally invasive procedure of delivering a contrast injection, the heart structures and calcifications can already be viewed within seconds. Stroke patients can be assessed quickly. Perfect for pediatric patients with its quick, precise and reduced radiation dose. Speed, flexibility, and detailed visualization from head to toe make it ideal for multi-trauma patients. Provides excellent results in the evaluation of primary cancer targets, metastasis, therapy follow-up and future developments of new therapy courses.

The Stratus OCT TM is the only diagnostic tool that provides three diagnostic capabilities using the latest technology for high resolution scans: Macula, RNFL and Optic Nerve Head. It provides direct and complete cross-sectional images of the retinal structures for objective measurement and subjective clinical evaluation in detecting glaucoma and retinal diseases. Results or data enhance the specialist's ability to diagnose and manage a patient's glaucoma and retinal diseases.

The Philips iU22 is the only premium ultrasound system that can do the full array of ultrasound exams in 2D, 3D and real-time 4D. It is a very powerful imaging system used by the Radiologist complementary with the mammography and MRI especially in diagnosing benign and malignant breast lesions. As the Philips iU22 shows a superior image of the lesion, it is also utilized to perform breast biopsies.

The Navigator PRO evoked potential predicate device is mainly for the recording and display of human physiological data for auditory testing purposes and also to determine possible auditory and hearing-related disorders. Auditory stimuli are presented to the patient via insertphones and the corresponding Auditory Brainstem Responses from the patient are recorded using the electrodes from the scalp for the head and ears.

The Sonoline G20 is used for brachytherapy for prostate cancer treatment. It helps conduct the transrectal ultrasound volume study that determines the size of the prostate gland as well as the location and extent of the cancer.

The Sonoline acts as a guide during the implantation of the branchy therapy seeds.

The ALLEGRETTO WAVE system is the first new laser to receive approval in the United States since 1999.

It is the fastest LASIK system in the United States today, using Perfect Pulse Technology to safely and accurately control every single laser pulse from start to finish.

The ALLEGRETTO's diagnostic partner is the ALLEGRO OCULYZER. The Allegro Oculyzer is the latest high-precision tool providing a new level of diagnostic information about the anterior eye chamber to aid in the decision-making process for customized laser vision correction.

The Oculyzer provides the ophthalmologist the corneal topography measurement and analysis, using pentacam technology. The pentacam takes images of the eye from the front of the cornea to the back of the lens.

There are Three (3) things that set the Allegretto ahead of the competition.
  • Speed - Only takes 8.5 seconds to perform refractive surgery, therefore it minimizes risks such as drying, bacteria entry and swelling.

  • Treatment - Widest range of US FDA-approved treatments for myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, presbyopia (age-related weakening of the lens) and a combination of these with excellent results.

  • US FDA-approved-acceptance and approval worldwide. About 800 machines installed worldwide, other than the US. The United States alone has 112 installed units.
