Rehabilitation has been defined as the development of a person to the fullest physical, psychological, social, vocational, avocational, and educational potential, consistent with the individual’s physiologic or anatomic impairment and environmental limitations. Rehabilitation Medicine produces multiple simultaneous interventions addressing both the cause and secondary effects of injury and illness. The nature of rehabilitation includes assessment of the individual’s personal capacities, role performance, and life aspirations. The practice of rehabilitation requires an ongoing commitment to understand a patient’s personal goals by integrating scientific interventions to achieve them.
