Department of Ophthalmology Ambulatory Care Services Clinic caters to the eye care needs of charity patients of the Clinical Division of UST Hospital.

The University of Santo Tomas Hospital Clinical Division houses the Out-patient department (Ambulatory Care Services or ACS) on the right wing of the first floor. It provides medical as well as minor surgical services to ambulatory patients.

  • The Ophthalmology Ambulatory Care Service is located in front of the Records Section, adjacent to the Family Medicine department.
  • Ophthalmology Ambulatory Care Service has a diagnostic area with 4 cubicles and a subspecialty area with 2 cubicles for residents and consultants, visual acuity/interview area for medical clerks and senior interns, refraction area, and minor operating room.
  • Ophthalmology Ambulatory Care Service is being used daily by medical clerks (junior interns), post graduate (senior) interns, first/second/third year Ophthalmology residents, Retina fellow, medical consultants (active and visiting), and nurse staff to serve Clinical Division patients.
  • General Ophthalmology clinic is held whole day from Monday to Saturday.
  • Sub-specialty clinics are held on a regular basis to cater to patients with particularly difficult cases needing medical and or surgical intervention. The different subspecialties namely: Glaucoma, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Vitreo-Retina, Cornea, Cataract, Refractive Surgery, External Disease, Orbit, Oculoplastics, Lacrimal, Pediatrics, Strabismus, Low Vision are headed by the duly assigned section chief and its members.

Visual Acuity Chart

This instrument is used to get and check the latest visual acuity of the patient.

Slitlamp Biomicroscopy

This machine is used to examine the anterior (and posterior, using lens) portion of the eye and diagnose eye diseases.

Applanation Tonometry

This instrument (red arrow) is used to determine eye pressure.

Keratometer

This machine is used to measure the curvature of the cornea.

Ishihara/Farnsworth D-15 Color Testing

These are tools in helping diagnose color vision deficiency (color blindness).

StereoFly Test

This tool helps test stereo depth perception (stereopsis).

Prisms

This tool measures deviation of the eye/s in strabismus/squint cases.

Hertel Exophthalmometer

This instrument measures degree of proptosis (anterior outward deviation) of one or both eyes.
