The Department of Pediatrics of the University of Santo Tomas Hospital was founded in the year 1910 with a university hospital setting. The Department of Pediatrics throughout its past has promoted brilliance and quality in the field of pediatric service, training, development and research. The department remains a staunch of an integrated and holistic approach in the management of childhood disease in the Philippines. Constantly aiming to improve the quality of service, the department remains steadfast in promoting excellence and professionalism among its ranks. Mindful of the need to put the Filipino child among its priority, the department continues to restructure its people and policies to adequately address this ever-changing demand. Aware of the importance of continuing medical education, the department continues to propagate its brand of Thomasian education among its trainees with the hope of empowering future Thomasian doctors with a keen clinical acumen, a compassionate humanitarian heart, and an ethically upright set of professional ideals. Through its adherence to its longtime vision of being a standard and center of excellence in education, training, and research in the service of God, the child and the community, has been a pioneering department in the field of Pediatrics, being recognized as a Level 4 training program by the Philippine Pediatric Society.

The department has 2 special units: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Newborn Services Unit (NSU). It also boasts 86 active and visiting hospital staff with multiple subspecialties: adolescent medicine, allergy and immunology, pediatric critical care, cardiology, developmental pediatrics, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition (GHN), genetics, hematology and oncology, infectious diseases, newborn medicine, nephrology, child neurology, pulmonology, and rheumatology.
