The Section of MRI is located at the 2nd floor of the St John Paul II building (SJP II bldg) of the UST Hospital. The MR facility is well-lit and air-conditioned and is elevated relative to ground level as a protection from floods. The section currently utilizes a 1.5T MRI Machine for its daily operations. Acquired images are stored using IntelliSpace Portal Mini Picture and Archiving Communication System (with a back-up computer server that has 5TB storage capacity). Since the magnet of the MRI Scanner is always on, all equipment needed inside the magnet room must be MR safe or compatible to prevent any untoward incident it may cause. All personnel and patients entering the MRI scanning room must also be free of any electrically, magnetically and mechanically active metallic objects. If present, the nature of the material shall be determined to be MR conditional or MR safe/compatible before being allowed to enter the scanning room or to undergo an MRI procedure. A metal detector is utilized to ensure metallic implements are not accidentally brought inside the magnet room. The section also currently maintains a reception/waiting area with a cable TV system, one (1) restroom for the use of the working staff and another restroom for the patient and their relatives.
