SERVICES

The San Lorenzo Ward Center for Behavioral Medicine is a psychiatric unit located at the 2nd floor of the St. John Macias Building.  It has a 24-bed capacity, presently accomodating 15 clients, divided into the male ward, female ward and private rooms. The active staff members of the Department of Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine are privileged to admit clients.

Assessment and management of psychiatric conditions and neurologic disorders with behavioral problems are done. The unit staff facilitates and supervises healthy interaction among clients. Psychological testing and psychotherapy sessions are conducted here as well. Reintegration into the community is facilitated once clients are in the state of recovery.

The San Lorenzo Ward also provides the following facilities:

  • Patients’ ward and rooms: has a bed capacity of 8 male patients and 8 female patients in a ward-type setting. There are 3 private rooms which may be used for individual male or female patients, each with its own bathroom. Suicidal or self-injurious patients may not be admitted in the private rooms.
  • Interview room: split in the middle by a one-way mirror, where psychiatric interview is done in the inner room, and where consultants, residents, interns and clinical clerks may observe from the outer room. Psychological testing, play therapy and psychotherapy sessions may be conducted here as well. 
  • Amenities: The ward has 20 locker spaces to safely keep the personal belongings of patients, such as clothes, and toiletries. The nurse or assistant nurse on duty is in charge of accessing these personal belongings for the use of the respective patients. The ward also has a stock room where other hospital equipment and materials are stored.
  • Nurse’s station: located strategically in the middle of the wards and patients’ rooms allowing the nurses full observation of the entire ward. It contains patient charts, hospital forms, medical equipment and medications. A complete and fully furnished emergency kit is always readily available. The monitor for the continuous circuit television is kept inside. This area is off limits to the patients.
  • Observation room: This is a specialized room with padded walls for acute crisis intervention for violent, aggressive and assaultive patients.
  • Community Hall/Activity Room: a multi-purpose hall for recreational and socialization activities for the patients, facilitated by the residents and staff nurses. It is where occupational therapy activities, such as art, music, dance remotivation therapy are conducted. It serves as the dining hall for the patients, and is also used for Eucharistic celebrations on Sundays
