The UST Hospital follows the general guidelines set by the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges. Our Post Graduate Interns have regular 2 month rotations in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as Community Medicine. They also rotate in Neurology and Psychiatry for 1 month. They are also made to care for patients in the critical care units, the operating and recovery rooms, the Ambulatory Care Services, as well as the emergency room.

The Interns also have an opportunity to choose their elective rotations from 5 specialties for their final month:

Radiology, Rehabilitation Med, Ophthalmology, ENT, and Radiation Oncology.

The curriculum for all their rotations are “outcome based”, where the interns have to acquire knowledge and complete certain skills, always guided by their seniors, whether these be residents, fellows, or consultants. They participate in bedside rounds, lectures and conferences, as well as skills training activities to better prepare them for their future practice.

Apart from the regular activities in each Department, the interns also have several extracurricular events. The White Coat ceremony, scheduled in the first month of their internship, is when they are formally welcomed to the UST Hospital family. The interns also have “q1 Monthly” forum, where the interns council inviting guests to talk about topics of its choice. They also have a protected interns hour, where they are given lectures in preparation for the Board examinations.
